Nestled just north of the bustling downtown area, Zazil-Ha offers the perfect blend of tranquility and excitement. It’s where I first settled when I moved to Playa del Carmen.
What makes Zazil-Ha unique? It's where the traditional Mexican vibe meets modern living. Picture colorful homes next to sleek condos, all within walking distance to the stunning Caribbean Sea. Being able to walk down to the beach to dip my toes in the sea before starting my work day was one of the best parts of living there. Zazil-Ha is a place that's blossoming yet still holds onto its authentic charm.

Moshe Cube: Very popular Kosher Middle Eastern dishes in a restaurant with sidewalk seating and an intimate vibe. Try the meat or fish balls with couscous!
Mariskinky: A lively seafood restaurant known for its fresh catches and playful atmosphere. Enjoy their signature ceviche and seafood tacos with a fun twist. Popular with locals and expats.
La Cueva del Chango: A jungle-like setting serving authentic Mexican cuisine.
Amate 38: Offering Yucatecan dishes with a contemporary twist. My personal favorites are the Chaya empanadas and the Amate Omelet.
Mae Thai: Best Thai food in Playa! The staff is very friendly and the food captures authentic flavors.

Rocka’s: A Caribbean-themed restaurant run and bar by a friendly Jamaican and Vietnamese couple. Known for their jerk chicken and tropical cocktails. Also try their Rasta Pasta with Shrimp. One of my favorite restaurants in Playa!
Papaya Pizza: A local pizzeria serving up classic and creative pizzas. Try their signature Papaya Pizza topped with tropical fruits and ham.
Zo’Zen: A frozen yogurt shop with Tulum-inspired decor. Try their CBD infused frozen yogurt!
Taibe Steak House: A premium steakhouse specializing in grilled meats and fine wines. Their ribeye and lamb chops are must-tries.
4 Elements Bistro: A must try restaurant! Every detail is thought out—from the wish tree, to the handcrafted menus, and the small fire pit where you can write something you want to let go of and burn it. The food is also excellent and the presentation and taste of the cocktails truly wows!
Tahini: A Mediterranean restaurant offering Middle Eastern delights like falafel, hummus, and shawarma in a warm setting.
Chela de Playa: One of the only places you can find artisanal beers in Playa del Carmen.
La Vagabunda: A long-standing favorite serving Mexican and international cuisine in a lively atmosphere, often featuring live music and cover bands.
Luma Taverna Del Mar: A taverna just steps away from the beach offering fresh seafood dishes with a Mediterranean influence. Perfect for a romantic dinner.

Francesca: Francesca is a very popular Italian coffee shop with delicious meal and pastry options. I especially love their cannolis and cheesecakes! There is good WiFi and ventilation, but it has become too noisy for a work spot since they expanded because the acoustics make the sound resonate.
Quadra Cafe: Quadra Café serves exceptional espresso drinks and a variety of teas. Their menu includes healthy breakfast options and gourmet sandwiches. With ample seating, natural light, and high-speed Wi-Fi, it's a favorite among digital nomads and locals alike. While the fans keep the air circulating, unfortunately there is no AC.
Ah Cacao Chocolate Café: Ah Cacao has multiple locations across Playa del Carmen. In Zazil-Ha, there is a location on Quinta and Calle 38 that is popular with digital nomads. It is a beloved spot for coffee lovers and those with a sweet tooth. While it’s best known for its chocolate treats made from locally sourced cacao, the café also offers an excellent selection of coffee and light bites.

To find good nightlife in Playa del Carmen, you’ll usually need to venture into Playa del Carmen Centro, although there are a few spots to check out:
